Many climbers consider Patagonia’s Cerro Torre to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, but this hasn't stopped it attracting controversy.
Each season it attracts the most commited alpinists from all around the world. Its shear faces and harsh weather patterns provide some of the biggest challenges to be found in the world of climbing. It is a testing ground where reputations have been made or broken.
Italian Cesare Maestri claimed the first ascent in 1959, but since then a debate has raged. Climbers have tried to retrace his route but have come back with inconclusive and contradictory evidence.
More than a record of a single climbing event, The Tower searches for a glimpse of what makes people pursue these extreme endeavours.
